Daily Devotional – Rejoicing in Our Savior

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Zechariah 9: 9-13. Jesus, our King came to earth submissively to lead the greatest victory of the ages. We can rejoice today because Jesus came lowly in obedience to overcome death and sin!

Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
    Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
    righteous and victorious,
lowly and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
10 I will take away the chariots from Ephraim
    and the warhorses from Jerusalem,
and the battle bow will be broken.
He will proclaim peace to the nations.
His rule will extend from sea to sea
and from the River[b] to the ends of the earth.
11 As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you,
I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit.
12 Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope;
even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.
13 I will bend Judah as I bend my bow
    and fill it with Ephraim.
I will rouse your sons, Zion,
    against your sons, Greece,
and make you like a warrior’s sword.”

God’s salvation is a reason for rejoicing?

When we take the time to step back and pause life, we can add perspective. In our usual daily grind, we have our heads buried in work, chores, and commitments. We struggle to reflect on the victories in the past that speak to God’s love and commitment to us. Our King came to the earth to be victorious and conquer our adversary on our behalf.

We then find ourselves in a place where everything around us is shaky and it feels that the ground beneath us has all fallen away from beneath our feet. Frozen by fear, we contract and hide. As you look around you will see the miracles of the day. The breath within your lungs that sustains you with the beat of your heart are both kept in time by God your creator and healer.

Looking forward to the future we feel incompetent and unable. Knowing where we have been and where we are today, we doubt that God could use us in the future. We need to keep our eyes on the prize, knowing that God is the author and creator!

Although we can find God or choose to stare our fear down, in all situations, God has called us to not look back, down, or forward. Our Father has called us to look up! He has called us unto Him. He has created us, cares for us, and has the whole world in His hands. Stare into the deep pools of His eyes, and find yourself overtaken by His wonder right now!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Forgive me, God, for trying to take control, trying to manage yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Come over me with Your Spirit right now and let me lose myself in You! Remind me each day to come back to You and find myself in You.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
