Baby Products Every Grandparent Needs

There usually isn’t much of a need to have many baby products at your home when you’re a long-distance grandma, but there is a need when they come for a visit or your grandbaby lives nearby.

For those grandmas that are fortunate enough to live close to their grandbaby, having a few baby products handy can help prevent mom and dad from having to lug their baby gear back and forth, from their house to yours, and ensure that your grandbaby’s visit or night/weekends stay will run as smoothly as possible.

We know you’ve done this before, probably several times, but this is just a short refresher course that will take a look at the most basic and essential baby products grandmas or grandmas-to-be need to have when their grandbaby comes over to visit or stay the night.

Eating:

Booster Seat or High Chair

You can easily hold and feed your grandbaby with a bottle when they’re infants, but when they get older and bigger they’re going to need somewhere to sit and eat. A high chair or booster seat is ideal. If you don’t have the space to store a high chair, we would suggest purchasing a booster seat instead.

Little, Soft Feeding Spoons

Metal spoons can be too big for the baby’s mouth and can oftentimes cause the baby’s gums to hurt if they bite down too hard. You should instead use smaller and softer spoons, like silicone or soft plastic, that will fit into the baby’s mouth easily and keep the baby’s gums protected while feeding.

• Feeding Set – A non-breakable bowl, plate, fork, and spoon for toddlers who feed themselves
• Baby Bottles – Be sure to use the same brand and nipple size the parents usually use, so that feeding time feels familiar and comfortable to your grandbaby
• Sippy Cups – Non-drip, non-spill sippy cups help prevent damage to your carpets and furniture when the little one is walking around
• Bibs
• Food and Drinks – Mom’s breast milk or baby formula for infants and your toddler’s favorite foods and drinks

Bathing:

• Bathtub
• Bath Ring or Seat – Bath rings or seats keep your grandbaby safe when they’re too big for the baby bathtub, but not yet stable enough to sit in a real bathtub
• Non-skid Appliques – These are applied to bathtub bottoms and showers to reduce slips and falls
• Bathing Supplies – Bath soap, shampoo, lotion, sunscreen, cotton swabs, toothpaste and toothbrush specifically designed for babies and toddlers, plus soft towels and washcloths
• Potty Seat
• Step Stool – This will give toddlers easy access to the toilet and bathroom sink

Sleeping:

  • Night Light and Pacifier – Both of these items are optional, but be sure to get the parents’ permission before using a pacifier

• Diaper pail – Diaper pails offer more odor control than trash cans

Traveling:
