How to Wear RED and Rock it Even If It Isn’t Your Color

By Wendy Lyn Phillips –
Cupid, chocolate and red haute color… During the love month, you see images of all three everywhere. Tantalizing tastes, romantic dinners, lingerie to wear and …the color red? If you’re a classy lady wanting to be current and in style but you know that wearing red just isn’t your cup of tea, I can give you some options to strut in style, regardless.

First of all, knowing what colors you DO look best in is key. Deviating from the norm is OK as long as it isn’t necessarily close to your face. Red can be considered neutral but it’s really hard to find. Most shades of red are either a cool version (with blue undertones; apple berry, plum reds etc) while other versions are more warm (with gold undertones; sunset, firecracker etc). Usually one will compliment your natural skin tone better than the other.

Tip #1: Choosing the best shade for you in either a warm or cool red, can make a huge difference!

Next, wearing red doesn’t mean it has to be in clothing. Why not opt for a pop of color in an accessory like a purse, shoes, bag, scarf, belt, or jewelry? An all black, gray, or navy look with accents of red is really classic and most everyone can wear that. Use your jewelry to define your personal style. Here are some ideas…

Tip #2: Add red as just an accent color.

Knowing that red evokes strong emotion and passion, most women shy away from it feeling like they will stand out when they really want to blend in more. The color also denotes warmth, courage, speed & determination. Want to “up” your productivity a little? Maybe try wearing something red…Want to feel a little bolder and courageous? Wear red! Especially this month ~ and it doesn’t have to be head-to-toe red… even if it means a soft lip gloss in ruby. The sheerness of a gloss won’t be as bold a look as a cherry red lipstick would.

Tip #3 Wearing red will help you become more courageous. Make a statement!

Because it’s also heart health month, wearing red as a symbol of representing a cause is a good thing. It’s not all about you…in fact, you might wear red in honor of a loved one that has passed on…someone you loved. And you might wear red for your honey…just because.

From the boardroom to the bedroom, RED is the color to wear. Go ahead, get your red-haute-mamma-self out there and rock it!
