Vision – Get One!

Proverbs 29:18, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Vision gives people purpose. A purpose to move forward. A purpose to act. A purpose to unify. Vision: Do you have one?

There must be personal vision as well as corporate vision. An individual needs a personal vision of what God has called them to do in order to move towards that purpose. When God gives you a vision; write it down. Writing your vision down makes it concrete. It gives it life. You can now see it with your very eyes, written for your benefit. Habakkuk 2:2 says to “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets that he may run who reads it.” Writing your vision motivates you to run with it. God gives you vision for a reason; not to sit on it but to run with it. Verse 3 of Habakkuk 2 says “for the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” God says if I have given you a vision, it WILL come to pass. You must wait on it because in His perfect timing, it will surely come! Not, it will come but “it will surely come”. When that vision comes; be ready to run!

The presence of vision creates hope. Hope is very motivating. Hope propels action. When you can see what God sees; you can move mountains to achieve it.

But where there is no vision, people perish. When people don’t have hope, they no longer have the will to act. In Numbers 13:33, the people saw themselves as grasshoppers in comparison to the giants (Nephilim) and so the Nephilim saw them accordingly. How you see yourself, is how others see you. If you see yourself fulfilling the will of God, so will others. If you see yourself as a failure, so will others. When acting on faith, we see God’s vision! When we see God’s vision, we become giants! Giants can walk over small things. Giants aren’t intimidated by the little problems. Giants are confident that they will succeed according to God’s purposes.

Do you see yourself the way God sees you or do you see yourself as a grasshopper? If you don’t yet see the vision, pray and ask God to illuminate it for you. Then take hold of it; write it down, knowing that it will surely come!

  1. Saved in 1980 the Lord gave me a vision early; to help hurting, abused women. After entering Bible school I entered ministry in 1983. In 1995 I (God, of course) wrote Women at the Well Bible study. Taught it at churches until 2008, when living with my son and his family, they moved to another area. That’s when the Lord closed every single door I tried to go through. I don’t know why and everything I have touched toward that vision has been struck down. I have been devastated! I have been ‘waiting on the Lord’ for nearly 4 years. I feel I have lost all will to do anything…even attend church. I have so many things running through my head and heart, but nothing comes to fuition. What am I missing?

    1. Barbara, There are many possible reasons for the closed doors. 1) God may be done with that particular assignment and wants to prepare you for your “right now” purpose 2) God may be calling you to a place of rest – read article: http://lauriewebbministries.com/blog.php?id=55&showEntry=1 3) sometimes we need to do a check up to make sure we aren’t blocking God’s will -http://lauriewebbministries.com/blog.php?id=30&showEntry=1. But I truly believe if you pray and ask God to lead you to your right now purpose, and position yourself to hear – He will answer you and lead you to it. Don’t be discouraged – God isn’t through with you yet! If you are still breathing – you have purpose! I am still in a state of God-ordained rest. Yes, it drives me crazy sometimes. When you are accustomed to working, sitting still is uncomfortable. Hang in there! I am!
