The Softer Side of Autumn

Decorating our green room (guest bedroom/sitting room) allows me to indulge my love for Shabby Chic, Romantic Cottage and Garden Cottage – all rolled into one.

A while back I shared with you that I moved the shades from the green room to the dining room. The windows face west and the afternoon sun was heating the room. The shades I made years ago for the green room I altered to fit the dining room windows. They better fit the decor and the color scheme.

Now, the question was what to put over the windows in the green room. I was visiting a friend and loved the shades she had in her dining room. They have straps front and back that come from near the top and all you need to do is roll the shade and tie it up. I made three shades to fit the windows and added tie top curtains to add more privacy and softness. I am LOVING the look – Dearest does too.

I found these sconces and this angel-head shelf at Goodwill a while back they work perfectly as I have angels and fairies floating all round this room.

I found these large, cabbagy roses and variegated silk ivy at my friend Maria’s store, Rooms U Love and knew they’d be perfect accents for the sconces and the shelf.

Autumn typically is golds, oranges, rusts and browns. I wanted to change up the Romantic-Garden-Shabby Chic – Green room’s decor to reflect the season and sought softer shades of Autumn to decorate table, shelf and dresser tops.

My focus was on painting faux pumpkins white, keeping muted shades of green, pink and yellow touches of pewter as well as mercury glass.

I changed the bedding to a quilt – also from Maria’s store! I have one more window to cover – and that part will be complete.

At the couch I love having this round table – it serves well for tea time. I am still searching for things to fill the shelves, or I may leave them as they are. I scattered a few silk fall leaves as additional decor.

Along with the angels and softer autumn colors, I love the use of dried roses to add a sense of time and romance.

Shabby Chic, Romantic Cottage and or Garden Cottage – whichever look you’d care to describe our green room – I am loving the new curtains and the softer side of Autumn.
