Selecting a Detox Program That’s Right for You

By Jennifer Blaine –

There are many detox programs promoted in the market place. Don’t accept chronic aches, pains, skin problems, and lethargy, which can be clear signs of accumulating toxins in your body. Set yourself up for success; find a program that interests you, and start there.

Personally, I am a big proponent of organic cleanses that target the body and mind. Below are a few of the programs that I tried, which are of the top “10” detox programs found today. “Cheers to a healthy lifestyle,” Jennifer.

7-Day Body Cleanse Detox

The 7-Day Body Cleanse uses dietary supplements that stimulate, strengthen, and support health and beauty from the inside out by assisting with gentle elimination and flushing of excess fluids.  Specifically, milk thistle helps to protect and improve the function of the liver by detoxifying metabolic waste.

Milk thistle is my personal favorite, and one which all my clients swear by!

It’s a great 7-day program in which 32 ounces of water is mixed with the organic detox herbs. The mixture is sipped throughout the day, while still enjoying three (or five smaller) healthy meals.  I have only seen amazing results! This organic program can be done monthly or seasonally. Personally, I do it monthly with fabulous results: decreased body weight and percent body fat, increased energy, and glowing skin tone!

The Detox Master Cleanse

The Master Cleanse system seems to be one of the most popular detox and cleansing diets around today. It consists of consuming distilled water with fresh lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and grade A maple syrup (sweeten or tart to your preferred taste). The acidic characteristics of the lemon juice help eliminate toxins – besides acting as a natural appetite suppressant.  The cayenne pepper, with its heat, increases metabolism. The maple syrup helps sustain energy.

I can safely say, after trying this program, that it is a great cleanse. It can be done for 3-10 days; although, it’s on the hard side, without any real food intake during the program. However, my body weight and percent body fat decreased.  Unfortunately, the weight slowly came back. But on the upside, I felt refreshed from the inside-out, while maintaining my newly decreased percent body fat.

The Acai Berry Diet

The Acai Berry detox diet is a close competitor to the Master Cleanse system. Acai Berry is a very potent, natural product that is known to completely eliminate toxins in the body. The Acai Berry method is not meant to stand alone, but rather to be combined with an exercise regimen.  I am a strong advocate of the Acai Berry as an amazing antioxidant! The cleanse itself was ok, but not my favorite. I have seen better overall results with others.  However, Acai Berry is great when taken daily to increase your antioxidants.

Colonix

Colonix is another top competitor in the detox and cleansing diet industry (and for good reason). It is one of the only programs available that requires multiple steps – not simply the use of a straight detoxifying agent. The first step consists of taking the cleansing formula, which wipes out most toxins in the body. A “touch-up” step follows, which essentially cleans up the mess that the detox agent made. Finally, a healing agent is used, which helps replenish damaged or removed substances that the body needs.

I completed the Colonix in a “spa-setting” out west (which is always an interesting conversation-starter), via a medical nurse with the Colonix equipment. I liked it, and felt clean from the inside-out. I know some who do this program seasonally.  It is very important to increase your “probiotic” intake afterwards.

The Grapefruit Diet

The Grapefruit Diet is a simple, but effective, detox diet. Simply eat half of a grapefruit before each meal. (Don’t confuse with the Grapefruit Juice Diet.)

If you like grapefruit – yummy! If not, keep looking because this is probably not the cleanse for you.

Cabbage Soup Diet

A true detox diet, the Cabbage Soup Diet, is as simple as it is effective. It is a favorite for a reason, and ranks with the Master Cleanse system.

It is very popular. A number of my clients try this one. I am not a cabbage lover; therefore, it’s not on the top of my list. But if you like cabbage, dig in and enjoy.

Before starting a cleansing diet or detox program, consult with your physician, or a medical professional, especially if you have any medical conditions that could limit your participation in such diets.
