Want Plump, Perkier Puckers?

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s a great time to get your lips ready for red! Haute rock star red, that is. Has the dry winter winds and colder air taken a toll on your lips, making them dry and chapped? Even if red isn’t your color of choice to wear, try these tips to alleviate the cracked lip problem.

Using an exfoliate every day to gently buff off dead dry skin, is key. So many remedies of lip moisturizers aren’t going to work at least to their optimal benefit without first getting rid of the dry skin barrier. You can purchase one from many different cosmetic companies or mix your own. A combination of two parts honey to one part coarse sea salt will do the trick. Massage it all over your top and bottom lip then remove with a tissue. An additional benefit to the removal of dead skin is that during the massaging process, you stimulate circulation and your lips will look plumper. Next use a chapstick that seals in moisture. You can use a home remedy of a simple vitamin E pill for this. Pierce a gel pill with a straight pin and squeeze out a small amount as needed. For a store bought option, I like the Burt’s Bees brand, Vaseline with sunscreen or the Mary Kay Cosmetics Satin Lips brand.

Another simple tip that really helps is to keep lip color on your lips daily. Whether you are a lipstick wearer or not, it’s important during the winter months especially, to keep a little color or gloss on as a protector.

The prep work is done and now you’re ready for some lip stain. Always use a liner to add definition – neutral if you’re not used to wearing one – add lip color and finish with a glossy shine. Voila, you too can have plump and perky lips just like that. Celebrate your own style by choosing a color that reflects your mood: savvy or sassy!
