Are you ready for spring? It’s just around the corner, and in fact, the media is already ready for you to start stocking up on spring wear!
With each new season, it’s a good idea to overhaul your current capsule wardrobe so that you are rid of the dead weight and clear about how best to augment the wardrobe you have with all the fresh, new pieces the next season will bring.
So this month, let’s focus on getting our wardrobes in better shape! I’m challenging you, but challenging myself, too, to give our closets an overhaul, so that at the end of the month, our capsule wardrobes are perfect for us and ready for spring.
Here’s the four-week process I have in mind…
(1) Week One: Most important rule of thumb: always wear the colors that flatter you most! This is the guideline, so go through your closet and weed out anything that doesn’t work for you. If you don’t know your season, find out first, so that your closet can become a reflection of your color palette.
(2) Week Two: Find the right level of contrast. Depending on which season you are, you may need low, low-medium, medium, medium-high or high contrast in your outfits. Once you know which it is, you can put together a wardrobe plan so that each outfit replicates the level of contrast in your coloring.
(3) Week Three: Create a capsule wardrobe designed to make the most of your coloring and level of contrast. So as you begin to plan your capsule wardrobe, if you notice any gaps in colors that match your season or pieces you need to create the contrast you need in your outfits, make a list of what would fill in those gaps and begin looking for what you need.
Meanwhile, create the best capsule you can with what you have. When the catalogs and stores begin to bombard you with new offerings, if you are happy with what you already have, you’ll be less tempted to fill up on “junk food” pieces.
(4) Week Four: Identify a favorite outfit or “go to” uniform that you can rely on again and again as part of your capsule wardrobe. After several weeks of road-testing your capsule wardrobe, hopefully, you will have begun to identify the outfits you like best, that also like you best!
When you can identify a style of outfit or uniform that you know will work no matter what the individual pieces are, you can use this style again and again.
So take a look at what you’ve got. Get rid of anything you don’t love, notice what you need to add and be careful to add things in colors and styles that make you look your very best.

Thanks for the article, great tips and information…
A storage wardrobe has distinct cabinets for keeping different things. You can hang your long dresses and gowns, suits, coats and blazers in the hanging section.
Really nice article about storage wardrobes. Jeanine Byers Hoag keep posting…
