Have An Interest In Pinterest?

By Susan Stilwell –

One of the fastest growing social media sites of 2012 was Pinterest, a community of users with virtual pin boards. If you’re familiar with bookmarks on your browser toolbar, Pinterest works in much the same way.

Bookmarks assign a name to a link, and can be organized in folders. Pins assign a name and an image to a link. Instead of folders, pins are organized on boards such as:

  • Books I want to read
  • Decorating ideas
  • Photography tips
  • Recipes
  • Dream vacations

Community

One of great things about Pinterest is the community, and you’ll find plenty of friends with similar interests. The Home page features a variety of pins from different users, with millions of pins being added each week. You’re free to browse others’ pins and boards and “repin” to your own boards.

Is Pinterest For You?

With so many social media communities, is Pinterest worth your time? Definitely. Consider some of its features:

  • Boards can be organized in any way you choose.
  • Boards can be shared, allowing multiple people to pin to the same board.
  • Others can comment on pins, making suggestions or answering questions.
  • Pinterest has an application for smartphones and handheld devices.
  • Pinterest connects you with people around the world who have similar interests!

But be warned:

Pinterest can be highly addictive!

To sign up and create your account, go to www.pinterest.com and click “Join Pinterest” at the top of the page. You’ll need to add the “Pin It” button to your Bookmarks bar, but they provide easy-to-follow instructions that take a couple of clicks.

Once you’re there, be sure to follow Living Better at 50+.
