Healing A Broken Heart

Broken heart

Perhaps you are going through a divorce or are experiencing division in your family. Maybe you have adult children who have walked away from the Lord.

Are you heartbroken today?

Are you struggling through some life issues?

Do you feel like your heart is about to explode?

Listen, whatever the circumstance, when you are feeling this way, the very first thing you should do is to turn to Jesus.

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

What this means is that Jesus wants to carry your burdens. He wants to give you rest. He wants to lighten your load. He will do it if you allow Him.  But there is something you have to do. Yes, you do have a part to play. You have to cast your burdens.

The word cast is defined as an act of forcefully throwing something in a specified direction. It also means to get rid of or discard.

It makes me think of fly fishing. Several weeks ago I went fly fishing for the first time in my life. We were told to cast the line upon the water. As I dropped the pole behind me, I focused on the very spot in the water that I planned to drop my line. Then I used a very forceful, specific move as I cast the line upon the water. That is just what Jesus is asking us to do. He is the Living Water. He wants us to cast our concerns away and cast them onto Him.

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22 (ESV)

You must know and believe what the Word says when it says that he is near you and that he will save you. Do you believe that? God wants to heal your broken heart.

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 (ESV)

You should also know that it is His plan to heal you. Psalm 34:18 reads, He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

As you are facing hardships and struggling with a broken heart you will need to fight through your own fears. Your fears are most likely false evidence appearing real. The very thing you fear will most likely never happen. It’s easy to let your thoughts go astray and, before you know it, you are imagining horrible outcomes. However, you can choose to reject that fear. You can decide to fight that fear.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

Right here in the above scripture, you see that God will strengthen you. He will help you. He will uphold you. No matter what you are going through God will get you through it. His Word is His promise. He cannot lie. You have to decide if you can believe His word. Can you?

Can you believe in His character? Can you believe in His nature? His words are true and His word will endure forever. He promises to work all things together for those who are called according to His purpose.

If you do believe, then proclaim it in your mind, your heart and your mouth. Say this, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. “ Psalm 73:26 (ESV)

It’s also very important to decide to walk by faith, not by sight.

If you look at what is going on, it will cause you to be anxious. This is not God’s plan for you. Jesus said, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27 (ESV)

Remember this scripture and declare it out loud;  “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 (ESV). You can make your mind up that regardless of your battle, you can trust in the Lord, even when you do not understand. Just choose to trust.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.  Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)

There is coming a day when every tear will be wiped away. There is coming a day when there will be no more crying, pain or broken hearts. Take comfort in knowing that God wants to heal your broken heart if you will cast your cares on him. Trust him and know that he is there for you.

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4 (ESV)

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you that you care that my heart is broken. Thank you that you are near me. Thank you that you bind up my wounds.

Please help me to cast my cares and trust in you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Thank you so much for this article. A few days ago I subscribed to this magazine, and I’m so glad that I did. I am raising my grandson after my daughter’s passing & am very picky about where he goes. One evening I let him spend the night with his cousin at my nieces house. Trusting she would take good care of him I found out she allowed my 8 yr old grandson to watch not one but several R rated horror films. I was devastated & heart broken that part of his innocence was taken from him. I promised him I wouldn’t say anything to her but my first impulse was to call her and ream her. Instead the Lord helped me to see that this was a learning opportunity for both of us. I told my grandson that we needed to give this to the Lord & forgive. Of course he will never be allowed to stay there again. The next day I received this in my in box & I read it to my grandson. What a blessing, Gods perfect timing as always. Thank you for this article and thank you Heavenly Father!
