How to Find the Right Easter Dress

Easter

Do you know your season? I remember buying an Easter ensemble long before I was trained to do color analysis, in a pretty shade of blue that I was sure would look beautiful on me!

Choose the Right Color

I ordered it online and it hung in my closet, waiting to be worn, for weeks before Easter finally came. I put it on and got ready to go and could not figure out why it didn’t look right! It fit well, it was what I thought was a good color for me, but I didn’t like it. I wore it anyway and felt wrong the whole time I had it on.

Months later, I was color analyzed and I found out that I had been wrong about my season. My coloring was warm, not cool, and that blue was not my best color! No wonder it wasn’t right.

So if you have not been color analyzed, and are not sure which colors look best on you, I encourage you to find out before you choose a dress for Easter. Having a dress that is in your best color will make all the difference in the world.

I realize that the Easter season is about far more than what you wear, but you might as well look good while you celebrate. Am I right?

Choose the Right Contrast

Contrast refers to the differences in color value or intensity. A monotone outfit would be low in contrast, but wearing a white shirt and a black pair of pants would be high in contrast. Medium might be a brown pullover and camel pants.

But you also can consider the amount of contrast created with your skin and hair. There are shades of brown that are not good shirt colors because they are too close to my own skin tone and thus, do not create enough contrast.

Keeping your ideal level of contrast in mind will help you choose a dress or outfit that flatters your coloring. Watch to see if you disappear into the outfit or if it seems to overwhelm you. If so, it is either the wrong color or the wrong level of contrast.

Choose the Right Style

Do you know your body type? As an apple shape, tucking things in is never a good idea for me! On the other hand, if your body type is more straight, a ruler type, you might want to tuck in and use a belt, with full or circle shapes, to help create a more defined waist.

Keeping your body type in mind will help you choose a dress that flatters you. It would be terrible to spend money on something that’s not quite right, and not know why.

Sometimes plus-sized women do just that, buying things that aren’t right for them at all. They make the assumption that it doesn’t look right because they are plus-sized and that the dress or skirt or pants is the best they can do.

That is never the case! If you choose the dress or skirt that is right for your body type, you will look fabulous! Here are some links from Cardigan Empire to help you determine your body type.

Choose the Right Fit

One thing I like to mention as often as I can is that as women, we need to let go of our attachment to wearing a certain size. If you are not a medium, but a large.

It sounds simple, but many of us try to squeeze into the sizes we think we should be and we sacrifice our look to that need. Let go of what’s on the label and make sure what you choose fits you well.

Choose the Right Accessories

This one goes back to contrast. If your dress is all one color and it’s a maxi dress, but you are a deep autumn who needs high contrast, you may want to choose accessories in a different color. For instance, if your dress is ivory, you might want to choose earrings or a bracelet that has several colors. Or a scarf with a print that includes ivory but also has brown or peach or green.

On the other hand, if low contrast is best for you, consider tone-on-tone. A spring green with accessories in a deeper or lighter shade, for example.

Keeping these suggestions in mind could make the difference between an Easter experience during which you feel fully confident about the way you look and can relax and focus on the more important meaning of the day, or an experience during which you are distracted by thoughts about why the skirt doesn’t seem right or why the color seems off. I’m wishing you the first one and hoping for a wonderful Easter for you!
