One Day Juice Cleanse

fruits and glasses of juice

Juice cleanses are all the rage, and for good reason. We read about them in magazines, hear them discussed on talk shows and spot information all over the internet. To learn more about the benefits of  juice cleansing, Daughter-in-Law Diaries turned to Stephanie Korn, a certified Holistic Health Coach.

Stephanie has a life-long passion for health and nutrition, and she is driven to share her knowledge with people ready to make positive changes and achieve optimal health. She designed three and five day juice cleanses for Good Life Gourmet, in New York.

Participants drink five different juices per day for the duration of the cleanse. Nothing else. If a participant is desperate they may snack on raw cucumber or celery.

“This allows you to consume more fruits and vegetables than you could ever normally eat,” Stephanie explained. “Most people start with three-day cleanses, and may move to a five day at some point.” Juice cleansing, Stephanie said, detoxifies your body. “It gives your digestive system and your body as a whole a rest.”

“Toxins are stored in fat,” she continued. “And the more toxic a body is the more fat it holds onto.”

Besides jump-starting a diet, Stephanie Korn said juice cleanses can improve skin, promote energy and decrease inflammation.

“How people feel during the cleanse is completely personal,” she said. “Some are starving all the time and others get a ton of energy.”

Before starting a cleanse, she suggests cutting down on red meat, alcohol and coffee first.

Even though a typical cleanse starts at three days, you can get an idea of what it is all about by trying one day. “It may help you commit to a three or five day cleanse if you know what to expect. You will prove to yourself that you can do it,” Stephanie adds.

The following is a one day juice menu designed by Stephanie. All juices are approximately 16 ounces, with the exception of the nut milk that you end your day with. Get ready to plug in the juicer and drink up!

Juice 1

  • 3 large red apples (of your choice)
  • 2-3 cups spinach
  • (in equal parts)

Juice 2

  • 1 medium red beet
  • 3 medium carrots
  • 2 navel oranges, peeled
  • ¼ bunch flat leaf parsley

Juice 3

  • 4 large carrots
  • 2 large red apples
  • 1/2″ piece fresh ginger

Juice 4

  • 1 cup kale
  • 3 cups spinach
  • 2 pears
  • ½ cup  pineapple

Juice 5

There are two options to end your day with. If you haven’t had enough, you can make another green juice of

  • 1 large cucumber
  • 3 stalks celery
  • 2 cups spinach
  • 1 pear
  • 2 green apples
  • 1 lemon

Or you can make almond or cashew milk. You will need to mix this in a high speed blender.

  • ½ cup almonds or cashews soaked in two cups filtered water for a minimum of 2 hours, then drained
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons raw agave nectar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (or more to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons coconut oil

If making your own juice is not for you, most cities have health food stores or restaurants that offer the option to purchase prepared juices.

Happy juicing! Be sure to comment if you try this cleanse, and let us know what your favorite juice was.
