Daily Devotional – Worthy of the Sacrifice

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 10:34-42. 100% commitment was clearly the standard demanded from Jesus as He walked upon the earth. Jesus said that there should be nothing more important than the Kingdom of God.

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn

“‘a man against his father,
    a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—
36     a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[c]

fall scents for your home

37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.

40 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”

Carry your cross for God’s glory

Have you ever met someone that just gives in to demands or requests from others? No matter the request, they do anything and everything to appease those around them so that they can have peace. While they don’t experience any confrontation, the peace that they experience is merely temporary.

If we are going to stand for something, you can be sure that you will meet people that will disagree with you. Standing for Jesus and not wavering on the laws and commands of God will be sure to attract those looking to upset your peace. Convicted by the laws and commands, they know not how to react and deal with the conviction. So those convicted by the Holy Spirit lash out at the messenger without dealing with their conviction.

If you are working to find meaning and purpose through your own efforts, you will soon find that they were meaningless. The only way to find life is by receiving it from the one that gave life. Let us give up all the concerns of our lives as we take up the burdens on offer from Jesus today.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

You are most worthy of all the sacrifices that I could make, even unto death. Give me the strength today to carry the cross and burdens set aside for me. Be glorified today as I give up on making my way.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
