Daily Devotional – Wise Children Listen to Their Parents

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Proverbs 13:2-10. It is part of our human nature and sin to think that we know best! We want to convince others to adopt our thinking and beliefs. We think that our ways are the only correct ways to go.

From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things,

but the unfaithful have an appetite for violence.

Those who guard their lips preserve their lives,
but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.

A sluggard’s appetite is never filled,
but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.

The righteous hate what is false,
but the wicked make themselves a stench
    and bring shame on themselves.

Righteousness guards the person of integrity,
    but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

One person pretends to be rich, yet has nothing;
another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.

A person’s riches may ransom their life,
but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes.

The light of the righteous shines brightly,
but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.

10 Where there is strife, there is pride,
but wisdom is found in those who take advice.

Heed the advice of experience

Do you guard your lips? How often do you just say the first thing that comes into your mind? It takes control and love to consider what you are about to speak to and over others. Our sinful nature that so easily spreads contempt and hate. It takes deliberate actions to spread love and kindness.

As God has laid before us, blessing or cursing, it is our choice as to which we experience. Disregarding the instruction of those that love and care for us for our own ways and thoughts, will lead to a disaster. With disaster will be poverty and shame.

It takes a humble spirit, to acknowledge that they do not have the expertise and experience to make wise decisions. If you are the one that has the wounds born from experience, continue to love with your words of warning!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Father, for bringing me through the battles in my life that You have. You have revealed to me my heart and my sins. Help me to speak deliberately with love and compassion. Sharing my experience and wisdom with others.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
