Daily Devotional – Wisdoms Warning to the Rich

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Proverbs 23:1-8. To be envious of those that have received a financial blessing for the rewards of financial success reveals our sinful hearts. Be warned to wear yourself out to attain financial reward.

“When you sit to dine with a ruler,
    note well what[a] is before you,
and put a knife to your throat
    if you are given to gluttony.
Do not crave his delicacies,
    for that food is deceptive.

Saying 8

Do not wear yourself out to get rich;
    do not trust your own cleverness.
Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone,
    for they will surely sprout wings
    and fly off to the sky like an eagle.

fall scents for your home

Saying 9

Do not eat the food of a begrudging host,
    do not crave his delicacies;
for he is the kind of person
    who is always thinking about the cost.[b]
“Eat and drink,” he says to you,
    but his heart is not with you.
You will vomit up the little you have eaten
    and will have wasted your compliments.”

Those that have tricked others, will trick you

We live in a society that recognizes and lays up great respect for those that have achieved wealth and fame. Many throughout the world would trade their lives for those of the acclaimed celebrities that have achieved the life that so many strive for.

Many of these celebrities and respected people have underhandedly achieved their wealth and success. In illegitimate dealings they allowed their greed and fleshly desires to rule over them. Selfishly they have trodden over others and achieved that which they have wanted more than anything else.

While they have risked everything for a short amount of glory, their lack of wisdom is evident. Do you desire the limelight and glory? Be wary of the deceptive words and actions of those that make you promises, they will discard you and your efforts without a thought.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, for giving up your great wealth and stature in heaven so that we could receive the Father’s mercy. You have not led me astray or tried to be tricky. I take heed of Your lead and strive for the rewards that will last for eternity.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
