Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Proverbs 11:1-7. Wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment. Wisdom calls for us to treat others fairly and honestly in all that we do.
“The Lord detests dishonest scales,
2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with humility comes wisdom.
3 The integrity of the upright guides them,
but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.
5 The righteousness of the blameless makes their paths straight,
but the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness.
6 The righteousness of the upright delivers them,
but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.
7 Hopes placed in mortals die with them;
all the promise of[a] their power comes to nothing.”
Hope placed in humans is futile
Pride is a funny thing. It creeps up on you and adjusts your perspective. Pride feeds our selfishness and selfish desires. Catching us off guard, we soon find ourselves looking at others and treating them as those beneath us. Pride causes us to lose sight of reality and causes our demise.
The righteous and upright look to do the good works of God. They apply God’s love, grace, and wisdom to every area of their lives. Without the fear of the skeletons in their closet, the righteous walk peacefully and confidently each day of their lives.
Let us place our hope in the things, not of this world. Rather than hoping for a vacation for a few days, let’s look forward to a life of rest and celebration. Instead of hoping for our leaders to bring peace on this earth, be confident in the peace that Jesus, the prince of peace will bring!
Let’s Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you, Father, for Your integrity and honest wisdom. Thank You that You are Just and true in all that You do. I place my hope and faith in You, knowing that Your promises are true and will come to fruition.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
