Daily Devotional – Wisdom Avoids Quarrels

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Proverbs 17:13-22. Living in a time where people feel that they are educated enough to be right all the time, will only lead to more quarrels. So how do we reduce the tension and number of quarrels in our lives?

Evil will never leave the house

    of one who pays back evil for good.

fall scents for your home

14 Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam;
    so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.

15 Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent—
    the Lord detests them both.

16 Why should fools have money in hand to buy wisdom,
    when they are not able to understand it?

17 A friend loves at all times,
    and a brother is born for a time of adversity.

18 One who has no sense shakes hands in pledge
    and puts up security for a neighbor.

19 Whoever loves a quarrel loves sin;
    whoever builds a high gate invites destruction.

20 One whose heart is corrupt does not prosper;
    one whose tongue is perverse falls into trouble.

21 To have a fool for a child brings grief;
    there is no joy for the parent of a godless fool.

22 A cheerful heart is good medicine,
    but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

Do you always have to be right?

It is very difficult being around someone that always wants to argue. Not only are their opinions so strong, but sometimes they do not stop long enough to see that you both agree on the point. This person certainly drives others away, as their confrontational character is draining on so many levels.

The Bible warns us against being one that loves to quarrel. God tells us to check our hearts, motives, and fruit. If you desire to be right more than you desire to love others, you are most likely not filled with God’s Spirit.

I do not condone being a doormat. Do not allow people to overtake you. Be wise and wary of the schemes of those that seek their personal gains.

Spread the love with a cheerful heart. Leave those wish to quarrel to themselves, in time the truth will come to light.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, for giving me a cheerful and joyful heart. Help me to spread love and cheer rather than doom and gloom. Today, provide me with the words to spread Your love with all those that are around me.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
