Daily Devotional – How Well Do You Know Jesus?

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 16:13-20. If you knew the character and desire of God, then your choice to not live accordingly is disobedience. If you did not know Jesus very well, then it is understandable to not do His will.

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”

14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[b] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[c] will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[d] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[e] loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.”

Who do you say, Jesus is?

Jesus asks His disciples in this scripture who the people of that time and area said Jesus was. He wanted to preempt the question to the disciples of who they said He was.

At this point, the disciples had lived with  Jesus for some time. They had seen miracles and great things. They have received the wise words of Jesus and seen the compassion on the face of their creator. Having seen what they had seen, Jesus wanted to know who the disciples thought He was.

We often see God based on the characteristics that we have seen from Him. We may also see Him based on what we are hoping for Him to do in our lives. If you were to remove the tainted perspective of who Jesus is, the question is who do you know Him to be? From what you have seen in your time in His presence and in His word, who do you say Jesus is?

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

dating for women over 50

Thank you, Jesus, that You came to this earth. Not only did You come to pay the ultimate sacrifice, but You came to walk among us and give us a greater knowledge of You. Help me as I look more intently for You. Show me who You are!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
