Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 28:16-20. As we look into how well God knows us, and how well we know Him. The scripture is used to justify the missionaries that travel around the world. They leave their homes to spread the gospel to every corner of the world.
“Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
What is a disciple?
Jesus was very specific in His selection of words. He has called us to make disciples. He has not called us to build wells or hold massive revival events in foreign countries. Do you know the plan that God put in place from the beginning to spread His good news?
A disciple is “a follower or student of a teacher, leader, or philosopher.” The image that the word disciple conjures up is the same as an intern. The disciple lives day-to-day in the presence and under the instruction of whom they are following. It is a relationship where there are corrections and assistance. It is not a once-off message ending with a prayer.
Something so basic and fundamental to following the direction of Jesus, yet something that we do not see much of in the modern church. I wonder how well we know God if we have got this simple instruction wrong.
Let’s Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you, Jesus, that You laid out Your plans and desires. You have called me to disciple those around me or those in the corners of the earth. Show me who You want me to invest in and disciple with Your truth.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
