Daily Devotional – Where Your Treasure Lies

daily edvotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 6:19-24. In watching the behavior of many people around me, people spend money on what they believe to be important. Budgets and spending habits are dictated by priorities.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[c] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[d] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Where are your treasures stored?

The important question that Jesus raised and was asking us to consider was, “What is important to us?” Humans tend to spend money and time on the things and activities that are important to them. If you truly value the Kingdom of God, you would be found in positions that add and build the Kingdom.

In the same way that a healthy lifestyle includes eating well and being physically active, you can easily pick a healthy-looking person in a line-up. What may take a little time and effort will be well worth the investment.

The next question is about wisdom and long-term investment. Seeking God is the first step in wisdom, and investing in your eternity is a wise thing to do. How are you going to use your time and resources today?

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, that You made the greatest investment in history when You died on the cross of Calvery. You invested in my eternity and today I want to invest in it too.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
