Daily Devotional – The Victory Guaranteed Freedom

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 27:45-54. When Jesus cried out to His Father in Heaven before His last breath, He won the war. The death of Jesus on the cross, He paid the debt of all that lived before during, or in the future.

“From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,[c] lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[d]

47 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”

48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. 49 The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”

50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[e] went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”

Freedom is for the victorious!

At the moment that Jesus gave up His spirit, the Holy Spirit tore the veil that had stood between God and His creation. God and man could now freely approach each other. The Holyspirit would now be able to indwell man. From the beginning, the Father had desired that we have communion and fellowship.

Our freedom was bought on the cross that day. It did not come cheap by any means. We now have the choice of God or our own self. We could choose to dwell in the presence of the Almighty each and every day or choose to live according to our own rules.

Jesus gave us freedom, and the choice is ours. Freedom shales the earth’s core and our love for others and not only Jesus will shake the foundations of society. Will you choose freedom and God today? Will you choose your selfish desires and the traps that these desires snare you in?

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, that as You died and paid the price for our freedom that Your reward was us. When I do not see You hand, help me to remember that You have already done everything for us. Help me by the Holyspirit to love and live in freedom!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
