Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Isaiah 53:3-7. Jesus personally carried away our sins in His own body on the cross so we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. He was wounded for all our healing.
“He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
4 Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
stricken by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.”
Nothing costs nothing!
As a just Lord and ruler, God justly requires payment and sacrifice for the broken laws. Accountability and remorse should be the driving characteristic of those approaching the throne of the King who reigns over the universes.
For this reason, Jesus stood proxy for us. He assumed the great weight of not only my sins but the sins of all generations and all mankind. Jesus was whipped and had nails driven through His hands and feet so that I may miss the suffering. Not just the suffering of this world, but the suffering of an eternity without the love and grace of my creator.
As Easter draws nearer, let us not forget all that Jesus went through in order to give us a way out. Consider how it would be to receive a nagging tormenting day and night day and night for all eternity. We have all sinned and we all have so much to be thankful for!
Let’s Pray
Dear Father,
Thank you that Jesus died upon the cross for us all to receive Your mercy. Do not turn away from me but forgive and redeem me as I call on You today.
