Daily Devotional – The Signs of the Times

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 16:1-4. How well do you know the word of God and His voice? Would you be able to differentiate between the sound of His breath and that of others?

The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.

He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.[a] A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.”

The name of God was the sound of breath.

Living in Florida we can so easily be fooled by the weather. In the distance, there are darkening clouds that appear to be growing by the minute. It may appear as though there will be a huge storm momentarily. We may even be tempted to find refuge because of the lightning bolts flashing through the sky.

30 minutes later, without a drop of rain, you would be surprised to walk out to bright and clear skies. Although I may get caught out, I wasn’t fooled since I was prepared for what could come.

Jesus questioned the ability of those around Him to identify the fruit of their generation. He questioned them because they did not want to acknowledge that which stood right in front of them.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you Father that Jesus came to testify to Your love, grace, and purpose. As the fulfillment of Your word prophesized years before, He was hard to miss. Help me today to know You better so that I do not miss You and Your whisperings.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
