Daily Devotional – The Foundation of Our Faith 13

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Genesis 3:1-5. Sin is the defiance and rebellion from God, the creator and Lord of all. It has us refusing to acknowledge God for who He is.

“Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Sin attacks God’s word!

Once sin entered the earth, humans sought to live life on their terms. Convinced that Eve would not die a physical death she took the forbidden fruit only to die a far worse death. From this time, we have questioned the authority and sincerity of God.

Obedience to God in submission to His authority and love, we are protected and whole. Rather than seeking to please ourselves and do what serves our selfish desires, we should be seeking the will and glory of our Father in heaven.

When we follow the word of God, we see a Father that loves us despite our choices and actions. Although we have turned our backs on God, He has not given up on us. He sought us and paid the price to make it possible for us to live as He intended to.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you Father that Your word is perfect and gives life. Forgive me for the times that I have sought to do my own thing and not trust You.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
