Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Psalm 4:1-8. I recall the sense of thanksgiving that I have experienced a few times in my life. It was almost as though I was floating on cloud 9.
“Answer me when I call to you,
my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
2 How long will you people turn my glory into shame?
How long will you love delusions and seek false gods[b]?[c]
3 Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant for himself;
the Lord hears when I call to him.
4 Tremble and[d] do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.
5 Offer the sacrifices of the righteous
and trust in the Lord.
6 Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?”
Let the light of your face shine on us.
7 Fill my heart with joy
when their grain and new wine abound.
Thankful for the joys of life
Created with the purpose to have communion with God, God has created us with the ability to experience joy. Through sin, we have sought new ways to increase joy and happiness outside of the presence of God.
Think about all the activities or ways that we undertake to bring ourselves joy. Some people accumulate wealth to experience joy, others strive for accomplishments. While we may experience temporary joy and happiness, God’s joy comes with no guilt or burdens.
Let us draw closer to our God and have Him fill us with His joy. With our hearts and souls filled to the brim and overflowing, allow it to flow to all of those around you today!
Amen
