Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Hebrews 12: 18-19. The desire is to give you a taste of God. Throughout September, we will be opening the door. We hope to open your eyes to the awesome, Almighty Lord of all that we get to call Father!
18 For you have not come to the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness and darkness and tempest, 19 and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, so that those who heard it begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore.”
To comprehend God is an unattainable conquest. God is far greater with wisdom and understanding beyond our intellect and comprehension. As we consider who God is this month, we will start in Hebrews.
God is said to be alike a fire. When we call on God, it is as though we are coming before a HUGE ball of fire that has the fuel to sustain itself. This great ball of fire that we dare not attempt to touch, for our lives will surely be consumed by it.
God has blackness and darkness that we do not wish to see. Throughout scripture, God shares this side of His character. We choose not to see it and skip onto the loving father who has called us His friends.
God’s name is too mighty and powerful to mention or speak of directly. How have people taken His name in vain so flippantly!
Let’s Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
I come before You God, acknowledging that You are the one and true God. As the creator and Lord of all, You are more powerful than what my mind can comprehend. Forgive me for my flippant attitude towards who you are. I bow my knee to You in reverence and submission today, for You alone deserve the glory!
In Jesus’ name, Amen
