Daily Devotional – Sign of the Times

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 16: 1-4. How well do you read the weather signs? Would you manage to do a better job than the weather reporters? One of the biggest adjustments I have had to make in moving to Florida has been the weather. You can see huge black clouds building, and think that a storm is imminent. Only to have it blow over in 5minutes, giving way to blue skies.

The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.

He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.

fall scents for your home

So many times, I have packed up the family from the beach only to drive away from a dry beach. I have misinterpreted the signs and signals that I thought were leading to a major downpour.

Jesus pointed out how the religious people that so eagerly waited on God for a sign. They missed the sign that stood right in front of them. How often do we look so hard for God to reveal His purpose and guidance, only to miss the obvious leading?

As we saw from Psalm 23 yesterday, God directs us with His staff. Sometimes our stubborn desires and will require a firmer staff. However, by surrendering to God and His will, we will more easily see God’s leadership and guidance.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

I acknowledge that I do not need your signs or miracles in my life. You are leading me and directing me, and I humble myself to follow You. Thank you that Jesus was the ultimate sign of Your love and mercy! It is upon His blood and sacrifice that I stand redeemed!

In Jesus’ name, Amen
