Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from James 3: 13-18. Sometimes being the BIGGER person is hard to do. You know that it is right, but it is difficult to justify, especially when it feels that you are the one getting the short end of the stick!
“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.”

Righteousness is your reward?
In all things, do it as unto God. I often tell my children that everything they do is for God. If they are washing the car, they are washing God’s car. If they are on the phone with a client, they are talking to God. This attitude has us doing everything with excellence and humility.
We do everything and apply ourselves this way as we look to serve God and others according to His purposes. The problem is that this humble attitude sometimes gets lost in the efforts of others that shout louder and attract attention. We do not work on this earth for short term gain and for rewards that easily rot and can be consumed by others.
We live and work with integrity and excellence for the glory of God. As we follow His laws and seek to bring peace where there is hatred and selfish pride, there will not necessarily receive any rewards on this earth, but our right standing and righteousness are a prize far greater. The value of this righteousness exceeds any benefits that could be achieved on this earth.
Let’s Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you, God, that you see everything. No word or work is unseen and it will be rewarded, no matter how small or large. Help me Father to continue with strength doing the right thing, no matter the immediate reward or persecution.
