Daily Devotional – Prayer of Forgiveness

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 22:39-46. Jesus’ blood spilled from the cross like the blood of the sacrificed lamb. The blood flowing from the cross washed away the sins of the world so many years ago!

Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” 41 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.[c]

45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”

Blood dripped and flowed

Today we remember and celebrate the greatest day in history. This day over 2,020 years ago changed the course of life for the entire planet and generations to come.

Before Jesus’ blood flowed from the cross, it dripped as He prayed.

Facing the torturous death on the cross, Jesus knew what lay ahead and the suffering He would experience in a fleshly body. Although He asked for the cup to be taken away, He firmly faced the cross. He went to the cross, not shying away from the truth, but loving healing and speaking to those who implemented His punishment.

Today we take the opportunity to consider the broken body and flowing blood that has given us freedom and grace!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, for Your sacrifice on the cross. You didn’t shy away from the pain and sacrifice that You would experience for me! I worship and glorify You, the lamb that was slain! You alone are worthy!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
