Daily Devotional – When We Pray

daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 22:39-46. So often, it is accounted that Jesus went away to pray by himself. Although one with the Father, the Son of God needed to renew His strength and relationship with the Father in prayer.

“Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” 41 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.[c]

45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”

Would you pray for 1 hour with me?

Prayer is not only the best way for us to connect with our Father in Heaven and intercessor Jesus but a great way to go to war. With the battle not being ours, or fought with muscle and strength, we battle on our knees and not with hands and minds.

Jesus used His prayer time to connect and renew strength. Although He was about to enter the ring against satan, Jesus was not trying to fight. He was fully aware and willing to endure the pain and cup that was to be laid before Him.

I have always wondered at the disciples in this scripture. Jesus asked them to join Him for a time as He prayed, and they were not able to do so. While it is easy to judge, I have to check myself. I call on all of us to stop this Friday, to pray. Don’t pray against anything, just ask the Father in Heaven for strength. Everything that we face globally in the near future requires us to be strong!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, for giving us the example of prayer. Like You, I pray that the Kingdom of God comes to earth as it is in heaven. I take this opportunity today to just be with You and in Your presence.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
