Daily Devotional – Perseverance Delivers Rewards

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from James 1:2-13. Each one of us is equal before the throne of God. We are all born with nothing and will die with nothing. There should be no pride in our earthly belongings or achievements, but let us all persevere

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.

12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”

Blessed are those that persevere!

James said that we should count it joy when we face hard times. He understood that perseverance is a characteristic needed to lead a Godly and impactful life. Perseverance after all keeps knocking on the door of heaven in prayer, despite the circumstances around the one on their knees.

How do we develop the faith and perseverance needed to continue, and to trust God our Father no matter what enemy or circumstance we face? We learn it from the trials and that has been before.

Many sportspeople have spoken of how sweet victory is, because of the battles that they had to overcome prior to the victory. In the same way, success is only valued by those that have experienced pain and disappointment before. We need to not be scared of hurt and pain but motivated through it so that we can revel in the glory of what is to come.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Father, that You have called us to persevere in all things. You understand the value and wisdom that comes from difficulties. I place my faith in You today that You will see me through today’s challenges so that I can experience Your glory tomorrow.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
