Daily Devotional – Our Mission

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 4: 14 -19. This is so much more than a historical account of the participation of our Savior doing church. It was a prophetic proclamation by Jesus to those in His hearing, as well as to those who will have “ears to hear” today.

Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country.  He began to teach in their synagogues and was praised by everyone.  When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:  “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor”

It was a statement of purpose. It was a man, destined with the very essence of His existence, clearly announcing His mission. These words resounded throughout the temple with great authority, divine authority, to the point that it astounded even the most scholarly of the day. The religious sat in amazement that this simple carpenter could have such an impact. Jesus kept it simple, and so should we.

fall scents for your home

Today, we have the same mission; that is to share the Good News.  Here it is.

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. I Corinthians 15:1-4

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your Son, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, who shed his Blood so that I could live eternally with you. Help me Lord, to share the truth of the gospel. Help me to share my story of salvation. Help me to share your light to a lost and dying world.

In Jesus name
Amen
