Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Philippians 4: 2-9Fear is evidence of anxiety. Anxiety comes due to the ideal picture in our head, not matching the reality around us. Cognitive dissonance is the scientific word that speaks of the anxiety experienced. 

“I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

The opposite of fear is not strength. It is not might and determination either. The opposite of fear is faith. Fear and anxiety creep into our minds and souls when we believe that God who is in control does not want for us, what we do. We question whether God has our best interests based on our perspective and situation.

To combat fear and achieve peace, we need to rejoice and shout with thanksgiving toward God. Take our eyes off the immediate circumstance facing us and focus on God and who He is. We need to stop going to God with preconceived ideas and trying to dictate to Him what He needs to do for us.

When we place faith in God, in who He is, and trust that He has our best interests in mind, we shall have peace. We will have a peace that transcends everything and anything that can come our way. For if something comes your way, God has allowed it, and it is for His glory and your benefit!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You are more than enough! Forgive me for my pride and doubt. I have forgotten in whom my faith was, and tried to take control myself. I have lied to myself and been fearful. You have called me to Yourself, and to peace!

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
