Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Romans 6:4-10. We are raised to life just as Jesus was raised to from the death of the cross. You and I are valuable with the identity of Jesus. We live and are given identity!
“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.”
Our identity is in freedom
The water baptism is symbolic of us dying to sin, and being raised to a new life. We were bound to death by sin. Now that we are saved through the blood of Jesus we are free from the clutches of sin.
No longer compelled to do as sin would dictate, we are free to make decisions and act according to the will of God. We are free to draw nearer to our Father and dwell in His presence. No longer will we be found returning to sin like a dog to its vomit, but strengthened by the Holy Spirit, we will live lives for the glory of God.
Let us capitalize on the freedom and opportunity to live a life of purpose and love. Let every spoken deliberately build those around us today as the Lord built the earth with His words.
Let’s Pray
Dear Father,
Thank you for redeeming me from sin and death. Now that I understand the opportunities that I have before me as a free person, help me to remember that I am free because of Your sacrifice on the cross.
