Daily Devotional – Never Tested Beyond Our Limits

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 1 Corinthians 10:1-13. While I would love to have a cushy and easy life, I am also grateful for the trials and tests that I have faced. Hindsight is 20/20 as they say, and as I look back, I can see the value in the hardships that I have had to overcome.

For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”[a] We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. We should not test Christ,[b] as some of them did—and were killed by snakes. 10 And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel.

11 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come. 12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! 13 No temptation[c] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted[d] beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,[e] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

I’ve seen God move mountains, and I believe that He will do it again!

God is faithful and He will not fail us ever. That doesn’t mean that we will always get what we want. Often I have wanted and hoped for something that would only serve my flesh and desires. God was faithful to His mission and refrained from giving me what He knew was outside of His will.

Like a muscle, my faith only gets stronger and more personal through exercising it. So often we will cry out to God saying that we have reached our limit. God looks over to us and seems to say, “just one more!”

Our Father in heaven does not put us in the way of challenges and trials that are too much for us. Rather our Father gives us things that He can easily handle. Yes, perhaps we need to not try to be stronger and mightier like we are trying to prove something. Perhaps we need to be better at letting go, and letting God!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Father, that You are ultimately in control. You are never exceeding my limits, but teaching me and leading me into a more trusting relationship. I choose to let You take control today!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
