Daily Devotional – Miracles of the Bible 8

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Exodus 20:6-13. I have never seen water gush forth from a rock. I am sure that many of us have never experienced the miracles that we see in the Bible. God says that we should honor Him in faith and trust!

Moses and Aaron went from the assembly to the entrance to the tent of meeting and fell facedown, and the glory of the Lord appeared to them. The Lord said to Moses, “Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink.”

So Moses took the staff from the Lord’s presence, just as he commanded him. 10 He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?” 11 Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.

12 But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.”

13 These were the waters of Meribah,[a] where the Israelites quarreled with the Lord and where he was proved holy among them.”

God is good despite us!

If we got what we deserved, it would be an incredibly sad and depressing place to live. Fortunately, our Father who created us is constantly attempting to woo us toward Himself. He is trying to draw us nearer so that He can have us dwell in His presence as He intended.

In the same way that Moses struck the rock in frustration, we sometimes take our frustrated and defeated attitude to our challenges. We speak, act, and believe that our faith is pointless. No matter how pointless and hopeless it may appear to you, God is always good to us.

God is our provider and I have so often seen how He provides in the most miraculous ways. He may not have cash flying out of a rock, but He always provides! Let us get past the hindrances that we cause ourselves. Let us remember who our faith and hope are placed in and then act like it.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you that You are the provider of all my needs and wants. You have given me so much more than I deserve. Forgive me for my doubt and fear that cause me to not have faith in You and Your plans.

In Jesus’s Name,

Amen
