Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Exodus 17:8-16. This battle before us is not ours. We do not need to get caught up in the weeds of the combat. The battle belongs to God, and it is His glory!

“The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”

10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.

14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.”

15 Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner. 16 He said, “Because hands were lifted up against[c] the throne of the Lord,[d] the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.”

The battle is not one of flesh and blood

There are some battles that we instigate and cause with our sinful decisions and actions. Some battles come our way because our enemy seeks to kill and destroy us. In all situations, we can so easily be tempted and drawn into the battle to defend or fight for ourselves.

The battle is the Lords. As our Father, He is very protective over us. God is always looking to how He can provide for our needs and draw all of His creation unto Himself. Rather than fighting solely in the physical realm, we need God to fight for us on the spiritual level.

Let us remember today that God is the protector and defender of us all. He is active and will fight on our behalf if we will let Him. Let us practice letting go and letting Him fight our battles for Gis glory!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you that You are my Father and defender. You have always stood in my defense despite my wrongdoing. I turn it all over to You today asking that You fight these battles on my behalf.

In Jesus’s Name,

Amen
