Daily Devotional – Miracles of the Bible 12

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Numbers 17:1-9. Let us show our faith and beliefs through our actions. Let not our words sound like clanging pots and pans, but our actions reveal hearts changed and redeemed.

“The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and get twelve staffs from them, one from the leader of each of their ancestral tribes. Write the name of each man on his staff. On the staff of Levi write Aaron’s name, for there must be one staff for the head of each ancestral tribe. Place them in the tent of meeting in front of the ark of the covenant law, where I meet with you. The staff belonging to the man I choose will sprout, and I will rid myself of this constant grumbling against you by the Israelites.”

So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and their leaders gave him twelve staffs, one for the leader of each of their ancestral tribes, and Aaron’s staff was among them. Moses placed the staffs before the Lord in the tent of the covenant law.

The next day Moses entered the tent and saw that Aaron’s staff, which represented the tribe of Levi, had not only sprouted but had budded, blossomed and produced almonds. Then Moses brought out all the staffs from the Lord’s presence to all the Israelites. They looked at them, and each of the leaders took his own staff.”

God is the Father of fruit

Jesus spoke to us of the vine and the branches. It is not us and our personal efforts that produce fruit, but rather the Spirit of God running between Him and us. Where God is, there is life and life of abundance. Where God is not, there is death and decay.

Aaron’s staff is the perfect illustration of how God brings forth life and fruit in our lives. The staff was dead and lifeless before entering the presence of God. Within the presence of God, the staff came to life to bear fruit and miracles.

Let us be found in the presence of God today. If we are to have life-bearing fruit in our words and actions, then we need to be in the presence of God. Rather than us mustering up fruit from our efforts and sacrifices, let God sprout it forth from us.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you that You are the giver and sustainer of life. I come before You today and ask that You bring forth the miracle of life from my sinful and dead flesh. Bring glory and honor to You through the testimony of life.

In Jesus’s Name,

Amen
