Daily Devotional – Love as the Second Command

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from John 15:9-17. Our utmost and highest honor belongs to God. He will not share the love, honor, and glory that He is worthy to receive. With the overflowing love that He bestows on us, God commands that we share it with all those around us.

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.

15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other.”

With the overflowing love that we receive, we can give!

Our first call is to tap into the love of God through our intimate relationship with Him. As we abide and remain in close communion with God, we will be made whole and restored.

From our position of strength, confidence, and fulfillment we are able to lend a helping hand. As we learn to love from Jesus, we are able to share true love and commitment with those around us. As those entrusted by God with His will, we are commanded to love each other!

Jesus has chosen you, and wills that your love and commitment bring forth fruit. Let us invest our love and time into others so that we can show God a worthy harvest!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Father God, that You have created the way for us to love and care for each other. I commit to love and invest in those around me for the glory of Your Kingdom.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
