Daily Devotional – Lord and In Charge

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Psalm 148: 1-14. Jehovah Adonai is a short royal title. It denotes majesty, respect, and authority. In the English Bible, it is usually translated as Lord and is often combined with Yahweh to refer to God as Lord God. Adonai points to God as the One who is in charge—the Boss!

Praise the Lord.[a]

Praise the Lord from the heavens;
    praise him in the heights above.
Praise him, all his angels;
    praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon;
    praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens
    and you waters above the skies.

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for at his command they were created,
and he established them forever and ever—
    he issued a decree that will never pass away.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
    you great sea creatures and all ocean depths,
lightning and hail, snow and clouds,
    stormy winds that do his bidding,
you mountains and all hills,
    fruit trees and all cedars,
10 wild animals and all cattle,
    small creatures and flying birds,
11 kings of the earth and all nations,
    you princes and all rulers on earth,
12 young men and women,
    old men and children.

13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for his name alone is exalted;
    his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.
14 And he has raised up for his people a horn,[b]
    the praise of all his faithful servants,
    of Israel, the people close to his heart.

Praise the Lord.

David calls on all creatures beneath, on, and above the earth. He calls on them to bring praise to the almighty God. As the only being worthy of the praise and glory, David calls on all of us to bring praise and glory to God.

Who is God to you? Is He your Most High God, All sufficient One, Master, Lord of Peace, the Lord Who Will Provide? Is He your Father? We must be careful not to make God into an “it” or a “thing” to which we pray.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

I come before you the Almighty and worthy God. I come before you with all the creatures of this world and the heavens to bring you honor. My words may not suffice, but take my heart’s desires. may You be glorified through everything today!

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
