Daily Devotional – Look Unto the Cross

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Numbers 21:4-9. God has continued to provide an escape from His wrath. Even when we have brought unwanted consequences upon us, God will graciously give us the opportunity to repent and receive redemption.

They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea,[c] to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!”

Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.

The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.”

Sin brings fateful consequences

Does your sinful heart bring about consequences in your life? So often I have seen how my wayward thoughts, actions, and desires draw me to a position of regret and defilement.

Sometimes we grumble at the throne of God, but sometimes we gossip to others about our disagreement with God’s ways. Like the Israelites, we speak ill of the Lord and God that created us and has loved us more than we could ever comprehend.

God provided a way out. The design of God remains consistent, we are to look beyond ourselves and situations toward our savior. Let us focus our eyes and sights on Jesus, and the cross where He finished the redemption.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you Father that You have made the way possible. I look beyond my circumstances toward the cross of Jesus where He sacrificed Himself, the pure and sinless lamb of God. I have freedom because of Jesus and His sacrifice.

In Jesus’s Name,
Amen
