Daily Devotional – Do We Limit God?

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Joshua 6:1-5. I have always marveled at how the Bible speaks of God’s communication. I have yet to hear an audible voice of God, even though I am holding out hope to hear His voice loud and clear.

“Now the gates of Jericho were securely barred because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in.

Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”

Taking the reigns, we limit God.

I do not know how many church leaders would have been followed never mind sent into a mental hospital if they walked into a prayer meeting saying that God has told them to do what Israel did in defeating Jericho. With the story in the Bible and the testament to how God moved, it is too easy for us to try and copy or replicate it.

While we would be called crazy proposing this type of prayer meeting, how many other times has God performed a miracle in the same way?

It is too easy to copy and replicate God’s previous actions. Jesus never healed people in the same manner, even though He gave sight to many people.

I want to hear God’s voice and act accordingly, but I want to be sure that I am not just following my own desires and intuition. Let us not try and copy from history, but be on the lookout for a new movement from God!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Father God, that You are creative and unique in everything. You do not perform the same miracle twice, but use relevant and appropriate actions and surroundings. I desire to see You work and move in my life and will do not wish to control how You do it. Take the lead my God and do Your will!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
