Daily Devotional – Let Us Dive In

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from John 21:15-19. So often we may feel that we have let God and others down. Simon Peter is an example of a disciple that constantly lets Jesus down. Jesus would only reach down and pick him up time and time again.

“When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

Jesus commands us to feed His sheep

I always come back and remind my children that Jesus came to remind us of the core of God’s Kingdom and our salvation. First, we need to love God with all of our hearts and soul. God needs to reign over our lives and is the center of it all.

Secondly, Jesus instructed us to love our neighbors. Not just love them with scraps and leftovers, but we are to love them in the same way that we would want to be loved.

After Simon Peter had fallen short again, Jesus instructed him to love and feed others. So let us not hesitate in showering love of each other according to Jesus. Let us dive completely into the deep end of love for the sake of those around us.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, for coming to lead and show the path to righteousness. Thank you for loving us more than your majestic seat in heaven and not just sending us your scraps. Help me by Your Holy Spirit to dive in and love others as You have loved me.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
