Daily Devotional – Keeper of Promises

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 1: 18-25. There are promises on every page, and in almost every paragraph of the entire Bible. One man, named Dr. Evereck Storms, counted all the promises and found 8,810 promises. Almost 8000 of those were from God to man.

“Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.”

19 The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. 20 And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”

21 Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple. 22 When he came out, he could not speak to them. They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, for he kept making signs to them but remained unable to speak.

23 When his time of service was completed, he returned home. 24 After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion. 25 “The Lord has done this for me,” she said. “In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people”

The Bible is full of promises about nearly every aspect of life. Promises even, about what happens afterlife. God does not hesitate about making promises.  He knows that He is trustworthy and will live up to His promise. God loves to make promises and has recorded thousands and thousands of promises in the Word of God.

God promises Zechariah that he and his wife would conceive a baby boy. I love the response from the angel Gabriel when asked why Zechariah and Elizabeth would receive such favor. “I stand in the presence of God“. It is almost like Gabriel is saying that he heard the discussions around the throne of God, and he came to speak to Zechariah about the good news.

Not only does God stand by His promise to Zechariah and Elizabeth, but He stood by His promise of redeeming His people. God has made us many promises through the bible to hold onto, and for some of us, God has given us personal words and promises. Be sure to stand firm on God’s words. God loves to fulfill His promises and be shown as faithful!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that you are the promise keeper. When people around me will fall short and not fulfill their obligations, help me to remember that You are greater than this. I place my hope, faith, and trust in You and Your promises, today and every day to come.

In Jesus name
Amen
