Daily Devotional – Jesus the Messiah and Promise

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from John 11:17-27. The plan from the beginning was that God would save His people and the world. He would save His creation from themselves. He promised it for many years.

On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. 18 Now Bethany was less than two miles[b] from Jerusalem, 19 and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. 20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.

21 “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”

23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

24 Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

God keeps His promises

Religion is a human-made way to control and manipulate each other. Jesus did not bring religion, in fact, He stood defiant in the face of it during His time on earth. He loved the people but often spoke out against the hypocrisy of religion. God didn’t promise to fulfill the promises of religion, but He has always fulfilled His words.

Jesus who abided in the Father every day knew the heartbeat and direction of the Father. He knew the words and promises. Jesus was faithful and acted on the direction of His Father. He healed who God said to heal and delivered those that could not help themselves.

Martha in the scripture above, like Peter, acknowledged and spoke up about who Jesus was before the time of fulfillment. As they drew closer to God, they got to see Jesus for who He was. As you draw closer to God, He will show you who He is. God will speak His words and truth to you!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, that You the Messiah came to earth. You fulfilled Your promises and will continue to be faithful to Your word. I acknowledge You today as the Messiah and savior of the world.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
