Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 22:54-62. What will people think when they realize that I am a Jesus freak? Like Peter, I will have the opportunity to walk away and not stand up for what I believe, but will stand for Jesus and be labeled a freak?
“Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest’s house, and Peter was following at a distance. 55 And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them. 56 Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, “This man also was with him.” 57 But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.” 58 And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.”
59 And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.” 62 And he went out and wept bitterly.”

What are people saying when they realize I love Jesus?
Peter was so sure of himself as he rebuked Jesus for even suggesting that he would deny his Lord. Peter had seen Jesus perform great miracles. Jesus even pulled him up as he sank beneath the waves. You would think that Peter would have greater faith in the bigger picture.
Confronted by the other people, Peter cowardly denied the one that was about to die for him. Sin seeks to preserve our right standing in front of those around us. Our flesh craves the approval of anyone that will be willing to provide it.
I don’t judge Peter, I most likely would have done the same. Like Peter, I would be sorry and disappointed in myself. I would hate myself for denying the one that I love with all that I have.
Are you willing to join me and stand up as a Jesus freak? Let us not be ashamed of the one that stood naked in front of the crowds. Jesus was ridiculed, and scoffed on our behalf.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you, Jesus, for giving up so much and dying for us all. You stood up for the plan of the Father despite all that You faced. Today I proclaim that I want to be one that stands for You, no matter what others may say. I seek Your approval only!
