Daily Devotional – I’m Crying Out to Jesus

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 20: 29-34. We are often held back from all that we need by our concerns and fears. These fears are sometimes the people around us, and their thoughts about our behaviors.

As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 30 Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”

31 The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”

32 Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.

33 “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.

34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

When you are desperate!

It is understandable to be concerned and aware of how others see you and your actions. Many times the concerns and worry for those around us though hold us back from seeing a breakthrough. Our pride stands in the way of our freedom and answered prayers. I have seen how we can become desperate enough, that the thoughts and opinions around us do not matter.

Like the 2 men mentioned in the story above. They had obviously arrived at that point in their life that the perceptions and thoughts of others did not matter. The rebuking only encouraged them to cry out to Jesus louder. When they got the attention of the healer, they stood a chance of a life restored. They only needed to get His attention. Above everyone else and the hustle and bustle, they needed to catch Jesus’ attention.

The men got the attention of Jesus and got the healing that they were yearning for.

I think that in many instances in life today, that God is the one trying to get our attention above all the noise of life. Jesus is always there for us, but we need to stop and look to Him!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You have done everything. Sorry that I am sometimes so self-absorbed that I do not look to You. Right now I stop and look to You, knowing that You are there!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
