Daily Devotional – Our High Priest Understands

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Hebrews 4:8-16. Nothing is hidden from the eyes and ears of God. By His Holy Spirit, God’s presence is everywhere upon the face of the earth. When we pray, we can look into the eyes of God and experience His presence everywhere and anywhere.

“For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works,[e] just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Jesus the Great High Priest

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven,[f] Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Jesus walked this earth and experienced life.

When I was in school, the kids used to have a saying. After hitting your head they would say, “Life is tough, get a helmet!” So true, and all of us are going to experience a life where a helmet is needed. We are all bruised and hurt by those that we get to walk through life with.

Jesus experienced hard work, blisters, and physical pain from His day-to-day life. He also experienced betrayal and emotional distress by strangers and the closest friends that He trusted with His life. No matter the difficulties and trials that we endure through our life, Jesus has experienced it too!

For this reason, Jesus is the perfect one to petition on our behalf before God Almighty. Jesus experienced life and He understands what it is like to face trials head-on. Not only does He understand, but He is there to be your strength!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, that You have experienced life upon earth. You understand my difficulties and emotions while offering me strength. I will rest today in You and Your strength!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
