Daily Devotional – The Gospel Sacrifices

daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Romans 5:6-11. Human nature loves comfort. If you were given the choice between sitting back and relaxing, or getting dirty and working hard, you will most likely choose the former.

“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.”

The gospel takes some sacrifice.

The gospel is the demonstration of love. God demonstrated His love for us by sacrificing Jesus. The example shows that contrary to human nature, any gospel that seeks comfort should be questioned.

Why should the sacrifice of Jesus be the only sacrifice entered into the equation? A selfish and self-centered gospel that seeks to only attract the luxuries and fantasy’s of this world certainly does not match with the entire Bible’s message.

Blessings have been poured over us as we walk in the wake of Jesus but to judge salvation by worldly possessions is not correct. None of us can override where we are born, what family we are born into, and what opportunities lie before us. So if we have much, let us sacrifice for those that don’t. Love after all will always cost something!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

My flesh always desires the easy and effortless path. I know that this path leads to apathy, laziness, and selfishness. Remind me today that I am loved despite what I have and empower me to love those around me too!

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
