Daily Devotional – In God’s Word Personally

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 4:1-11. Too many church attendees receive 3rd party information about God. Never diving into the Bible themselves, they only receive what others think rather than what God says.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]

Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]

Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[e]

11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.”

This was not the Jesus I was told about

I was struggling with everything in my life. Having recently lost all that I had worked towards for many years, I was frustrated and seeking answers. I had been given the audio Bible for Christmas and I was listening to it as I drove around. It was then when I heard a scripture that had me pulling the vehicle over immediately. I stopped the audio and went back to find the scripture that had just heard.

Completely floored by what I heard, I thought that’s maybe it was a transitional mistake. I went home and found the same words and scripture in 3 different Bible translations.

The one thought that kept going through my head was “This is not the Jesus that I was taught about in Sunday School?”

This experience was the catalyst for me to dive into the Bible for myself. I weaned myself off of others’ opinions of God and His word. I read the Bible myself, for myself and waited on Jesus for His wisdom.

The church and bride that Jesus is coming for is one that will know Him because they have studied His word for themselves!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You have given us, Your church, Your word. Your Bible is good to instruct us and teach Your ways and laws. Most of all, Your Bible speaks of Your great love and commitment to me. Help me as I read Your words. Give me Your wisdom and understanding as I seek You.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
